Speedwell

Ken and Kim are seasoned canal boat enthusiasts.  On this occasion they were taking Speedwell along the Regent’s Canal in London from Limehouse basin towards Mile End Lock, where we met.  This part of the East End is steeped in commercial history.  This North Central London canal was developed in the 18th and 19th Centuries to link the River Thames via the Limehouse Cut in the East to the Grand Union Canal Paddington Arm and beyond in the West.  Sights further along include Regent’s Park and London Zoo.  Nowadays there is extensive residential development hereabouts, as nearby Hackney Wick and Bethnal Green grow in popularity, due to their proximity to “Silicon Roundabout” in Old Street and Shoreditch.
